CHARITABLE TRUST
About us
To help Jason realise his dream and ensure the continuation of the school and vital services it provides to the local community, the Hannah Memorial Academy Charitable Trust was setup in 2008 by a group of UK based trustees.
Our story
Jason’s story
How the school was started.
The Hannah Memorial Academy is the vision of Jason Lepcha who was inspired to build a school in memory of Hannah Foster.
Christine and Roger’s story
How the trust was formed.
In November 2006 Christine and Roger had been travelling in Darjeeling, when their driver, Jason told them about his school.
The Charitable Trust
How the trust supports the school.
The Trust supports the school through Jason, his family and the staff – who have the skills, knowledge, determination and vision – but not the financial wherewithal.
Christine"This school stands proud as a heart-warming and fitting memorial for Hannah that is supported by Jason, his family and many local people, as well as by our trustees and supporters in the UK. We are both proud and humbled to be involved with Jason in ensuring that this wonderful school continues."
LOCAL SUPPORT
Support for the school – from the people of Darjeeling
Jason’s use of his reward to start Hannah’s school has attracted a great deal of local publicity and both he and the school are well known in the area – not only because of the international manhunt that resulted in the arrest, but also because of general revulsion towards the crime and admiration for Jason’s philanthropy.
The Mayor and Councillors of Darjeeling District
Who have visited the school, commended Jason for his generosity, and named a new road that has been created to serve the village and school as ‘The Hannah Memorial Road’
Doctor Moktan
Visits regularly, giving his time for free. He weighs and measures the children, checks for illness and disease; medication is donated by local Pharmacies or the Red Cross and Hannah’s school is now a local centre for Polio Vaccination.
Mr Sharwa
The owner of a printing company and a school bookseller. He generously provides Hannah’s school with official text books and work books at cost price.
Sherap Lepcha
the Darjeeling District Chief of Police, who supports Jason and the school.
Local tailor
Local businesses are also supported and play an integral role in providing for the school
